Don't Break The Law!
You may not realise that if you have certain work done in your home you could be infringing the law if you do not have the necessary paperwork.
When deciding which supplier to choose for your work one of the first priorities should be to ensure that the installer can provide you with he required certificates and most retailers cannot do his.
Because all of Palmers recommended installers are NAPIT registered, they are qualified to issue these certificates.
Palmers can advise you on the requirements of the legislation to keep you on the right side of the law and here are the answers to some of the questions you may be asking:
What work is covered?
Certain Electrical, ventilation and Plumbing works that need to be registered with the Local Authority and the necessary certificate issued.
How will it affect me?
The registration certificate forms part of the Home Information Pack that is now required when you sell your home.
What are my responsibilities?
As a householder, the law states that it is your responsibility to ensure that work carried out complies with current Building Regulations and that the necessary certificate is obtained. Failure to comply could result in the householder being prosecuted by the Local Authority.
Can I register the work after the installation has been completed?
Yes, your local authority will issue this at the householder's expense, which can be anywhere between £100 and £300.
What are my options?
You can either register the work with the Local Authority prior to starting the work, for which there will be a charge, or employ a registered competent person (such as a NAPIT member) who will notify the work for you much more cost effectively.
What is NAPIT?
NAPIT is the National Association of Inspectors and Testers which is a government recognised body which ensures that its members have been assessed and have the correct qualifications and business practices to carry out a fair job for a fair price without hidden costs.
Why use a NAPIT Member?
They can save you from the wasted time and confusion you may get from employing an unregistered tradesperson.
NAPIT members will help you avoid breaking the law and save you time wading through the red tape.
NAPIT members can offer a six year guarantee on all works. All work that requires notification automatically carries a six year guarantee for workmanship.
How will I know if the installer is a member of NAPIT?
Every NAPIT professional carries an identity card showing who they are and what work they are qualified to do - electrical, plumbing or ventilation.
Palmers only use tradespersons that are NAPIT members so you are assured of their qualifications to do the job.
